Our History

The history of Trinity City Hotel mirrors that of Dublin City, not only in style, but in the atmosphere we strive to uphold.

There is history built into the walls of our hotel, made up of alternate eras: original Georgian buildings and features (including the old shopfront which is now home to our Number 26 Suite), a former fire station and an authentic courtyard garden.

Our building dates back to Viking times and the site has housed the likes of Tedcastle’s Coal Merchants, the British Army recruiting office and the Dublin Fire Brigade, a station which kept operating for over 100 years.

Now a landmark on a revolutionary road in Ireland’s capital, Trinity City Hotel has absorbed the many energies of times gone by. Named after one of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising, Pádraig Pearse, Pearse Street became the home for our modern and stylish hotel. Pearse was born just a few doors down from us and part of the hotel happens to occupy the garden where Pearse and his brother Willie used to work and play.

To see for yourself just how historic and important a building it is, take our on-site historical tour where you will be transported back through tales of times gone by. From the Vikings to the Pearse family and the trivialities of life in the 1900s, you will be instantly entranced by our humble hotel and the history of Pearse Street and its environs.
